Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, potentially offering more accurate probabilities than static sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's likelihood, driven entirely by trader activity.
