Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to reflect the true probability of an outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market continuously adjusts as traders react to news and information. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, information advantages, or simply variations in risk assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence regarding the Bratislava doubles match.
