Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit from margins, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it's important to note that prediction markets often incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, especially regarding real-time developments.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of Karol/Paulson winning the Bratislava doubles match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The current implied probability of Karol/Paulson winning, as reflected by the market price, is 57.5%.
