Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often incorporating information and analysis not immediately available to traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on team or player statistics and expert opinions, this market allows traders to continuously update their assessments based on new information or changing perceptions. Therefore, you may find differences between the implied probabilities on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, potentially revealing unique insights into the expected outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe in a particular outcome, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities accordingly.
