Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting biases or promotional considerations, while this market relies on individuals directly expressing their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, analytical approaches, or simply varying opinions on the players’ strengths and weaknesses. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more accurate probabilities, especially when a large and diverse group participates in trading.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective assessment of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time forecast of the match’s result.
