Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring, as assessed by traders. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities. While sportsbooks may initially be influenced by expert opinions, this market allows a broader range of participants to contribute their insights, potentially leading to more accurate predictions as new information emerges. It's important to compare and contrast to understand differing perspectives.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Braga doubles match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The market is driven by supply and demand; if more people believe Gornes/Walkow will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects current expectations.
