Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often converging towards probabilities that differ from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, incorporating a margin, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can trade accordingly, driving the price on Polymarket towards their collective view. This can result in odds on Polymarket being more accurate, or at least representing a different perspective, than those found at traditional sportsbooks.

This market resolves around Oct 17, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on which team—Boston United or Scunthorpe United—wins the second half of the match. Official match results from a reputable sports data provider will be used to determine the winning team. Traders who hold shares in the correct outcome will be paid out according to the final market price at resolution, while those holding shares in the losing outcome will forfeit their stake. It’s important to monitor the event closely as the resolution date approaches.

Several factors could influence trading activity and move this market before resolution. Any news regarding team injuries, changes in player lineups, or tactical adjustments could impact perceived probabilities. Unexpected weather conditions on match day might also play a role. Furthermore, significant shifts in public sentiment, perhaps driven by expert analysis or media coverage, could influence trader behavior on Polymarket. Finally, even large trading volume from a single participant could temporarily shift the price, although the market tends to self-correct over time as more traders participate.
