Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs, leading to odds that can be more accurate, especially as more information becomes available. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on team performance, injuries, or other game-day factors.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract directly reflects the market's assessment of that outcome's likelihood. As more traders participate, the price converges toward what the collective believes is the fair value. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are influenced by news, analysis, and overall market sentiment, creating a dynamic trading environment for those interested in predicting the 2nd quarter winner.
