Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a margin for profit. This market, driven by active traders, tends to more efficiently incorporate new information and public sentiment. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome, or that new information hasn’t yet been fully factored into sportsbook lines.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether Bolton Wanderers or Stoke City will score first. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. Higher volume generally indicates greater confidence and more active trading around a particular outcome within this market.

This market resolves around Oct 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on which team is officially recorded as scoring the first goal in the Bolton Wanderers versus Stoke City match. The official match records will serve as the basis for determining the winning outcome of this market. Any disputes will be handled according to Polymarket’s standard procedures for verifying event outcomes.

Several factors could influence the trading activity in this market. Late-breaking news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Bolton Wanderers or Stoke City would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Changes in team form, tactical adjustments announced by the managers, or even weather conditions on match day could also impact trader sentiment. Unexpected news related to team morale or internal conflicts could also move this market, as traders react to any information that alters the perceived probability of either team scoring first.
