Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an outcome as assessed by traders. This market, like others, can sometimes show divergence from sportsbook lines, potentially indicating disagreement about the underlying probabilities. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, as traders react quickly to news and analysis surrounding the game.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, indicating increased confidence in that result. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on the platform.
