Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of individuals, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market relies on the aggregated predictions of many traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Examining these differences can be insightful, as the market may incorporate information not fully reflected in sportsbook odds, or vice versa, and can be a useful tool for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of specific exact scores. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment. The total volume traded provides an indication of the market's interest and confidence in different outcomes, with higher volume generally suggesting greater conviction. The current market reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants.
