Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often diverging from initial sportsbook offerings as more information becomes available and more people trade. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell based on their beliefs. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast probabilities, especially as the event approaches, because they aggregate diverse perspectives. However, sportsbooks may offer different types of wagers not available in this market.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price fluctuates, reflecting the collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. The market’s depth—the number of shares available at different price points—indicates the level of confidence traders have in each possibility. The current price reflects the aggregate opinion of all participants on Polymarket.
