Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on power ratings and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and real-time adjustments based on trader activity. If sportsbook odds heavily favor one team, this market might show a more nuanced view, especially if there’s significant uncertainty or conflicting information available. Discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments and the incentives of participants in each venue. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more competitive odds, particularly as the event approaches.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The market depth, indicated by the number of buy and sell orders at different price levels, provides insight into the strength of conviction behind each outcome. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information.
