Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying levels of information and incentives. Sportsbooks incorporate a profit margin into their odds, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. If a significant discrepancy exists between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook offerings, it could signal an opportunity for informed traders. However, it's important to remember that both represent different perspectives on the likelihood of various outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different possible exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that exact score occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust accordingly, providing a real-time assessment of the potential outcome. The current trading volume and price fluctuations indicate the level of conviction behind each possible result.
