Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the beliefs of individuals willing to put their capital at risk. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. Comparing the odds can reveal where the crowd believes there's value or where sportsbooks may have mispriced the probability of certain outcomes in this match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth, or the number of shares available at different price points, also provides insights into the strength of conviction behind each outcome. The more shares traded at a specific price, the more confident traders are in that particular result.
