Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, incorporating a profit margin, while this market relies on individuals directly expressing their beliefs about the likelihood of each exact score. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to remember that prediction markets are forward-looking, incorporating information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score. The price of each share reflects the market’s collective assessment of that outcome’s probability. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts, providing a dynamic and real-time estimate of the likelihood of each score. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by new information, analysis, and the overall sentiment of the traders participating in the market.
