Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a “vig” or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the wisdom of the crowd on Polymarket, aims to represent the true probability of an event occurring, without an inherent profit margin for a central operator. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts as more information and opinions are factored in by traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or varying levels of confidence in specific outcomes.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether Arsenal or Leeds United will score first in the second half. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, with traders constantly updating their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the match.

This market resolves around Oct 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team—Arsenal or Leeds United—scores the first goal in the second half of the match. The result will be based on official match data and verified against credible public sources. The platform will then finalize the outcome and distribute payouts to traders holding shares in the winning outcome.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before it resolves. Any news regarding team lineups, injuries to key players on either Arsenal or Leeds United, or changes in weather conditions could all shift trader sentiment. A late-breaking announcement about a player's fitness, or tactical changes revealed before kickoff, could significantly impact the perceived probability of each team scoring first. Even public opinion, as reflected in social media or expert analysis, could contribute to price movements in this market.
