Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by individuals trading on their own insights. Generally, you’ll find that prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional point spreads, especially when factoring in information not readily available to bookmakers. However, sportsbook odds are readily accessible and provide a useful benchmark for comparison, and can sometimes offer value depending on your own assessment of the game.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous auction format. Traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome – in this case, Arkansas or Texas A&M being the first to score a touchdown. The price of each contract represents the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the prices adjust to reflect the collective belief of the crowd. Higher volume generally indicates greater confidence in a particular outcome, while price fluctuations signal changing expectations. The current price reflects the most up-to-date assessment of each team's chances.
