Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an outcome as determined by traders. It’s common to see differences emerge, particularly as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. This market may offer a different perspective on the likely result of the Arizona State vs. BYU game compared to conventional betting lines, potentially identifying discrepancies in perceived probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are traded, the price of those shares adjusts, reflecting the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. Higher demand for shares in a specific outcome drives up the price, indicating a greater perceived chance of it happening. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust expectations.
