Often, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, incorporating a margin for themselves, and may be influenced by public betting patterns. This market, however, allows traders to express their own beliefs about the likely outcome, potentially leading to odds that are more accurate or that identify mispricings relative to sportsbook lines. Discrepancies can arise due to differing expertise among market participants and the incentive to find and profit from informational advantages.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Aristarkhov vs. Syksa match. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds closely align with the perceived probability of each outcome, as determined by those actively trading.
