Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their books and ensure profit, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Early on, sportsbook odds may heavily influence the price, but as more information becomes available and more traders participate, this market can diverge, potentially offering more accurate predictions. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment shifts or new information surfaces related to the fighters' training or condition.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and the probability rises accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined entirely by supply and demand, with traders acting as both market makers and informed speculators. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust its predictions.
