Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to be accurate. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of how each type of market operates. If there's a significant difference, it might indicate an opportunity for arbitrage – though transaction fees and slippage should be considered. It’s important to compare these odds to those offered by sportsbooks to gain a comprehensive understanding of expectations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome in the Antofagasta doubles match. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of shares is determined by supply and demand, meaning that the market’s collective assessment of the likelihood of each team winning dictates the current odds. This dynamic pricing allows for real-time adjustments based on new information and changing sentiment.
