Generally, prediction markets like this one often reflect information and insights different from those priced into traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on public perception and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, allowing traders to express their own informed opinions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing analytical approaches, access to information, or simply variations in market participants. It's common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges closer to the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact score outcomes. The price of each share reflects the market’s collective belief about the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust accordingly, providing a real-time assessment of expectations. The market’s efficiency stems from the incentive for traders to accurately assess probabilities, as profitable trading relies on correctly anticipating the event’s outcome.
