Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it may indicate that prediction market participants have access to information or insights not yet fully incorporated by sportsbooks. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither is guaranteed to be correct.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a completed match between the two players. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the collective assessment of all traders on the platform, essentially creating a real-time probability assessment of the event's outcome. A higher price indicates greater confidence in that outcome, while a lower price suggests less confidence.
