Generally, prediction markets like Polymarket often reflect information and analysis beyond what’s immediately priced into traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may set initial lines based on power rankings or public perception, while this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, potentially incorporating more nuanced factors. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or as the event draws closer. However, as the event approaches, the odds on Polymarket tend to converge with those found at major sportsbooks, reflecting a similar assessment of probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability, with higher prices indicating greater confidence in that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market is driven by supply and demand; if many traders believe Daniil Medvedev will win, they’ll buy shares, driving up the price.
