Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks typically set odds to ensure profitability, incorporating a margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise from differing analyses of player form, head-to-head records, or even external factors like weather conditions. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to odds that diverge from those offered by sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome will occur, the higher the share price will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the collective intelligence of its participants.
