Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by participants’ beliefs about the likelihood of each exact score. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the event, or that new information hasn't yet been fully incorporated into sportsbook lines. Examining these differences can offer valuable insights into public perception versus professional analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that score occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares bought for a particular score, the higher its price becomes, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds continuously adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment. The current volume traded provides an indication of how much interest each outcome is receiving.
