Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market sometimes offering more favorable odds, especially when there's strong disagreement with the wider public's perception. Comparing the odds can reveal where the 'wisdom of the crowd' differs from professional oddsmakers’ expectations for the Alba Berlin vs. Bilbao Basket match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand, meaning it’s driven by the willingness of traders to buy or sell shares, based on their individual analysis of the game.
