Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs. If a significant number of people believe a team is more likely to win than sportsbooks suggest, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes. The price of each share reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment surrounding the Alabama-West Georgia football game.
