This set of markets tracks how many points each team will score in an upcoming college football game, allowing participants to speculate on various scoring thresholds for both teams.
All markets resolve based on the official final point totals of Miami (OH) and Akron in their college football game scheduled for October 17, 2026. For each market, if the specified team scores over the designated point threshold, the market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. If the game is postponed but commences within 48 hours of the original start time, the markets remain open and resolve according to the actual result. If the game does not start within this 48-hour window, all markets resolve to a fair price, ensuring equitable treatment for all participants regardless of the specific point thresholds set in each market.
Generally, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, incorporating a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it might indicate that prediction market participants possess information or insights not yet fully priced into the sportsbook lines. However, both aim to predict the same real-world event, and convergence is common as the event approaches.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different team total outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the market's collective assessment of its probability. As more traders buy a contract, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of that outcome occurring. Conversely, selling pressure drives prices down. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading activity influence price movements, creating a dynamic environment where prices adjust based on new information and changing sentiment.
This market resolves around Oct 17, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the final team totals for both Akron and Miami (OH) are verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official statistics reported by the governing body of the college football game. The market will determine which contracts payout based on whether the actual team totals fall within the ranges defined by the contracts offered on Kalshi. All trading will cease upon resolution and payouts will be processed accordingly.
Several factors could influence the price of this market. News regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Akron or Miami (OH) would likely cause significant movement. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if they suggest adverse playing conditions, could also impact expectations for scoring. Late-breaking news about coaching strategies or team morale could also play a role. Finally, any significant shifts in public perception, perhaps driven by media coverage or expert analysis, could influence trading activity and move prices in this market.
