Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If there's a significant difference, it might indicate that the market perceives information differently than sportsbooks, or that one venue has more informed traders. It’s important to note that discrepancies can arise due to varying levels of information and differing risk assessments.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means that the price reflects the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, and changes as new information becomes available or opinions shift regarding the AHL hockey matchup. The current trading volume provides insight into market interest.
