Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market reflects the collective predictions of many individual traders. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when there is strong public sentiment or information not yet fully incorporated into sportsbook lines. It’s common to see this market adjust more quickly to new information, potentially offering different value than what’s available at sportsbooks.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Key player injuries or suspensions for either the Griffins or the IceHogs would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Unexpected coaching changes or major trades could also impact the perceived competitiveness of each team. Game-day news, such as starting goalie announcements or reports of team morale, can also trigger movement. Finally, any significant shifts in public perception, perhaps driven by expert analysis or media coverage, could lead to changes in this market.
