Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each entity assesses the probabilities of various outcomes. It’s common to see prediction markets move more quickly to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, potentially offering a more accurate forecast.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to represent the collective prediction. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or predetermined values.
