Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market relies on individuals freely trading based on their beliefs about the outcome. It's common to see discrepancies, particularly when public sentiment strongly favors one result, or when new information emerges that isn't fully incorporated into sportsbook lines. Analyzing these differences can offer valuable insights into market perceptions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, and the volume traded indicates the level of confidence in the prevailing odds.
