Prediction market odds, like those for this market, often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets allow traders to freely express their beliefs. This can sometimes lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets potentially identifying mispriced outcomes. However, both types of odds aim to accurately represent the probability of an event occurring, and both are influenced by new information as it becomes available.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict may differ due to variations in trader demographics, market liquidity, and individual risk assessments. Polymarket may attract a different type of participant than Predict, leading to differing opinions reflected in the odds. Furthermore, the volume traded on each platform influences price discovery; a higher volume generally indicates greater confidence in the price. These factors contribute to the observed price discrepancies for the AC Milan vs. Bologna match, even though both platforms are tracking the same underlying event.
