Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the wisdom of the crowd on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets can quickly adjust as new information emerges and more traders participate, potentially offering more accurate forecasts. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, particularly as the event nears.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular team, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of them winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, creating a real-time forecast of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup winner. The current top outcome has a chance percentage of 50.0%.

This market resolves around Nov 16, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winning team of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, as officially declared by the tournament organizers, will determine the resolution. The market will then pay out to those who correctly predicted the winner. It’s important to note that the resolution will be based on the official result, regardless of any pre-event predictions or analyses.

Several factors could significantly influence this market between now and the tournament’s conclusion. Major player injuries, coaching changes, or unexpected results in qualifying matches could all shift the perceived probabilities. Team form leading up to the World Cup, including performance in pre-tournament friendlies, will also be closely watched. Any significant news regarding team dynamics or player availability is likely to cause fluctuations in trading volume and price adjustments on Polymarket. The announcement of final squads and any controversies surrounding team selections could also move the market.
