Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and often incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant number of people believe a particular result is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will shift accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there's strong public sentiment or new information influencing perceptions of the event's potential outcomes.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome, and the price of those shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to find an equilibrium point where buyers and sellers agree on the fair value. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates what the collective market intelligence suggests is the likelihood of a specific team scoring first in the match, or neither team scoring at all.

Several factors could influence trading activity and shift the odds in this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Union Berlin or Dortmund would certainly be significant. Tactical announcements from either manager, such as a change in formation or starting lineup, could also impact perceptions of each team’s scoring potential. Even weather conditions on match day, or significant shifts in public sentiment based on pre-match analysis, could drive trading volume and cause the price of shares to fluctuate before Oct 17, 2026.
