Polymarket

This market will resolve according to how much "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" box office will gross domestically by August 31, 2026. The "Daily Box Office Performance" figures found on the "Box Office" tab on this movie's The Numbers (https://www.the-numbers.com/) page will be used to resolve this market once the values for all dates between opening (July 31, 2026) and August 31, 2026 are final (i.e., not studio estimates). If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher range bracket. Please note, this market will resolve according to the The Numbers figures provided under Box Office Performance until and including August 31, 2026, regardless of whether domestic refers to only the USA, or to USA and Canada, etc. If there is ambiguity as to whether the resolution source's figures are final, this market will remain open until both https://www.boxofficemojo.com/ and https://www.the-numbers.com/ have confirmed their finalized figures. If there is no final data available by September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, another credible resolution source will be chosen.

Prediction markets and traditional analyst forecasts often diverge because they operate on different incentive structures. Analysts publish point estimates and ranges based on historical comparables and studio guidance, while traders in this market stake real capital on outcomes, creating pressure to incorporate new information quickly. If major box office reports or industry developments emerge, market odds may shift faster than analyst revisions. Comparing the current odds to published forecasts from entertainment analysts can reveal where the crowd's confidence differs from expert consensus on the film's domestic total.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader positions into real-time probability quotes. Buyers and sellers trade shares representing different outcome ranges, and the price of each share reflects the collective belief in that outcome's likelihood. The current odds reflect the aggregated conviction of all active traders on the platform.

This market resolves around Aug 31, 2026, at which point the outcome is determined by the film's verified total domestic box office gross. Once the final figure is confirmed from credible public reporting, the market settles based on whether the gross falls within the specified range. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution hinges entirely on the actual box office data reported by industry tracking services as of the deadline.

Opening weekend box office performance is typically the strongest early signal, as it establishes momentum and audience reception. Subsequent weekend holds, word-of-mouth trends, and critical reviews can all shift trader expectations about the final domestic total. Competitive releases, awards season developments, and any studio marketing pushes will influence how traders reassess the film's legs and ultimate gross. Real-time box office reporting each weekend provides concrete data that traders incorporate immediately, causing price swings as the cumulative total inches toward or away from key thresholds.
