Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets aggregate beliefs from traders risking real capital on outcomes. This market may show odds that differ from traditional sportsbooks, offering an alternative view of the match's likelihood. Comparing the two can reveal where professional traders and casual bettors disagree, sometimes highlighting value or consensus shifts in real time.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader positions into continuous odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As traders buy or sell shares representing each outcome, the price adjusts algorithmically to reflect the updated probability. This mechanism ensures liquidity and allows you to enter or exit positions without waiting for a counterparty, though larger trades may move the price more significantly than smaller ones.
